Peterson is the All-Time Assist Leader at Syracuse, 2016-17 ACC Player of the Year
NEW YORK, NY (April 13, 2017) – With the 15th overall pick in the 2017 WNBA Draft presented by State Farm, the Seattle Storm selected Alexis Peterson, a 5-7 guard from Syracuse.
“Alexis is a true point guard, she’s a strong playmaker and solid scoring guard that will fit well in Jenny Boucek’s system,” said Storm President & GM Alisha Valavanis. “We are excited to welcome Alexis to Seattle and to the Storm franchise.”
In four seasons with Syracuse, Peterson was a dominant floor general who went on to become the program’s all-time assist leader with 590. In addition to her passing ability, Peterson was a flat-out scorer who compiled 1,978 career points – good for second all-time. She also ranked second all-time in both career field goals made (677) and free throws made (440).
During her senior campaign in 2016-17, Peterson directed the Orange a 22-11 record and a second round appearance in the NCAA Tournament. She started all 33 games, averaging 23.4 points and seven assists per contest on the way to earning Second Team AP All-America honors. She was the first player in school history to be named the ACC Player of the Year.
As a junior in 2015-16, Peterson was an All-ACC First Team selection when she averaged 16 points and 4.7 assists. With Peterson at the point, the Orange mustered a remarkable postseason run, ultimately finishing as the runner-up in the NCAA Tournament behind UCONN.
A native of Columbus, Ohio, Peterson was child and family studies major in the David B. Falk College of Sport and Human Dynamics.
